# What is ElevenLabs?

ElevenLabs was founded in 2022 and focuses primarily on advanced generative AI for audio. The company was co-founded by Piotr Dąbkowski, a former Google machine learning engineer, and Mateusz Staniszewski, an ex-Palantir strategist.

The motivation to start ElevenLabs stemmed from a desire to improve the quality of voice dubbing in films, which led them to develop the backbone for their text-to-speech (TTS) solutions.

Their mission is to make content accessible in any language and in any voice.
