# How does the ElevenReader Chrome extension work?

The ElevenReader Chrome extension makes it easy to import and listen to online content directly in ElevenReader. Once signed in, you can instantly import articles, web pages, or stories without copying links or switching tabs. The extension also supports capturing paywalled or complex pages, auto-importing ePUB files, detecting downloaded documents, highlighting text for quick import, and combining multiple chapters into a single continuous read.

**How do I install and sign in?**

First, install the [Chrome extension](https://elevenreader.io/text-to-speech-chrome-extension) from the [Google Chrome Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/elevenreader-%E2%80%94-text-reade/mahgnmmldchnmmdfkfcoindpgkadhhhc). The extension automatically recognizes your logged-in ElevenReader account. If you’re not signed in, you’ll be prompted to log in before importing content.

**How do I import content?**

Click the ElevenReader extension icon in your browser to import the content of the current web page.

The extension captures the full HTML content of the page, even if the material is behind a paywall once you’re logged in.

Once imported, select **Listen Now** to open and play the content directly on[elevenreader.io](https://elevenreader.io).

**How do I import files?**

The extension detects supported file types (ePUB, PDF, TXT) as they’re downloaded.

- ePUBs can be imported automatically.
- PDFs and TXT files will prompt you before import.
- You can adjust these preferences in the extension’s settings.\\

**Highlighted text**

When you highlight more than 1,000 characters on a webpage, the extension will prompt you to import that section directly into ElevenReader.

**Bulk chapter import**

If a “Next Chapter” link is detected on your current webpage, the extension will display an **Add Next Chapter** button. Clicking this option collects all subsequent chapters and merges them into a single continuous read. This is best for web novels, fan fiction, and other chapter-based online reading.

**Troubleshooting**

If the extension doesn’t appear to import content correctly:

- Make sure you’re signed in to your ElevenReader account.
- Try refreshing the page and clicking the extension again.
- Check that your browser has permission to access downloaded files.
- Restart Chrome if imports remain incomplete.
- Uninstall and re-install the Chrome extension. \\
